Great point, Chris.
Teaching is a very demanding job.
I was an ESL teacher for 2 years in a private school in Serbia (southern Europe). Anyone who tells me that teaching is easy, I suggest they should go to school and try it. I give them 40 DAYS for their new career. By that time the system and working with students show their bad sides, and you usually feel frustrated and unappreciated for your own hard work.
Teaching means helping young people shape their personalities — helping them learn how to think and become functional members of society. Is there anything more important than dealing with the country’s future intellectual and labor potential?
I have a similar article but in Serbian ☺
If I were considering teaching career again, I wouldn’t go back to school until teachers become the most appreciated labor in the country. Which is the case in only several European countries.
