It’s fear. If I ignore the bear in front of me, he’ll disappear. It’s intimidating to live with the realization you can’t do anything to make a deadly virus go away from this world. So they choose to believe it’s harmless. They are unable to accept they can’t control anything. I live in South Eastern Europe and it’s the same here. Umcertainty is scary, so people mock it.
