Self-help is good if you are ready to do the work and if the advice comes from a person who really managed to change.
But the ultimate problem with the self-help industry is that it makes you feel inadequate. It makes you want to change because you “aren’t living your life to the full potential”. As if your personality is a computer program and you can optimize yourself to your whims. If you don’t chase the desires of your Id, you are a failure.
Self-help CAN help you, but you have to know when to stop and tell yourself:
“Ok, I’m good enough.”
Most of those interested in it don’t.
