Such a beautiful mix of humor and profoundness!
My daughter has the same announcement: “I don’t want to grow up and I’m not going to die.”
And I finally say “OK”.
I didn’t before. I used to tell her that everyone dies and that my Communist grandmother is in heaven, looking at us from above (I’m an agnostic, I heard this advice from a child psychologist). She wasn’t concerned about it until we took her to hospital.
There is a certain amount of information children can take. As much of a realist as I am, I realized I have to play by her rules and move the limits of the acceptable bit by bit.
A beautiful piece.
